Braunstone is one of Leicester's largest planned estates, laid out on 1,200 acres bought in 1926, with 1,764 houses built by December 1939. The scale of that single build shows in the housing today: long runs of classic three-bedroom 1930s and 40s semis, originally with a living room, scullery and bathroom each, built to a consistent standard across both South and North Braunstone.
Kingsway, the wide road with a village green running through its centre, is the estate's defining feature, alongside Braunstone Park itself, 168 acres surrounding Braunstone Hall. Older buildings from the original village, the former Shakespeare Inn, the old school house, a handful of private homes, still stand at the historic core, predating the estate by generations.
Doors on the 1930s social housing tend toward original or long-replaced latches that have finally worn through; the private housing built alongside it in a wider range of styles brings the usual spread of euro cylinders and UPVC mechanisms.
Braunstone Park hosts some of the biggest community events in this part of Leicester, and on those weekends we see a small rise in calls from visitors who've parked up and locked themselves out of a car or a rented property nearby, alongside our usual estate callouts.
Braunstone Town and North Braunstone are sometimes treated as separate places by residents, even though they share the same estate history and the same housing types. We cover both the same way, and it rarely matters which side of the old boundary your street falls on.
What We Fix in Braunstone
Ninety years of consistent estate housing means we know the common failure points on a Braunstone door before we've parked the van. The original 1930s builds and the private infill housing built alongside them both come up regularly, and we carry parts for each.
- House lockouts across Braunstone Town and the wider estate
- UPVC and composite door mechanisms
- Snapped or worn keys in original and replaced locks
- Flat lockouts near Kingsway and the park

Braunstone sits right against the western edge of Leicester, and we usually reach it in 10 to 15 minutes along Narborough Road or the A47. It's effectively part of our core city coverage rather than a separate trip.
Same DBS-checked engineers, same fixed price agreed before we start, whether you're on a 1930s estate street or near the park.
A typical Braunstone call: a 1930s semi where the original latch has finally given out after decades of use. We replace it with something that matches the door rather than the easiest option to fit.
Price confirmed before we start. We'll tell you the cost on the phone and confirm it again when we see the door. No surprises, no upsell, and nothing added once the job is underway.
We've covered Braunstone since 2015. Every engineer is DBS checked, every job carries £2 million public liability insurance, and if we can't open your lock, you don't pay for the visit. Ninety years of estate housing means we rarely see a lock type we don't recognise.
We also cover Glenfield and Narborough from the same Leicester base, both a similarly short run away. Or see our full emergency locksmith Leicester coverage. If you're not sure which page fits your address, call anyway. We'll cover it either way.
