What Is Cylinder Snapping?

Most UPVC and composite doors use a euro cylinder lock. These cylinders sit partially exposed on the outside of the door. Burglars have learned that many cylinders can be snapped with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver in under a minute. Once snapped, the door opens without a key.

It's fast, quiet, and leaves no sign of forced entry until you notice your door is open. It's also very common in Leicester and across the East Midlands.

What Anti-Snap Cylinders Do

Anti-snap cylinders are designed to break at a sacrificial point before the critical locking mechanism is reached. If someone tries to snap the cylinder, they get a piece of metal but the door stays locked. The better versions also resist picking, bumping, and drilling.

Does Your Insurance Require It?

Many home insurance policies specify that external doors must have British Standard locks. Some insurers now require TS007 3-star rated cylinders specifically. If your policy says "British Standard locks" and you have a basic euro cylinder, you may not be fully covered in the event of a break-in.

The Fitting Process

Replacing a euro cylinder takes around 20–30 minutes. We measure the existing cylinder, source the correct size from stock, and fit the new one. You get new keys cut and tested before we leave. That's it.
